Born in Asia Minor around 270, Nicolas was elected bishop of Myra, Turkey. He participated in the first ecumenical council of Nicaea in 325 and suffered much persecution of Diocletian. He died in prison on December 6, to 350. In the eleventh century, the relics of St. Nicolas is transferred in Italy, with the Muslim advance.
