Persian baby names

A Persian baby name consists of a given name and a surname. Sometime, a Persian baby may have more than one given name.
Most of the Persian baby names are Persian in origin, but some Persian Christians name are also derived from Arabic. The Masterpiece Persian literature book, the Shahnameh or "Epic of Kings", which is composed by Ferdowsi is alone is the origin for about 10%-15% of the Persian baby names. Few names derived from this book are Javid, Ardeshir, Fariborz, Sam and Yazdan. Persian people started using surname after act of the Vosough od-Dowleh government in 1919. Prior to this act, Persian people was often distinguished from others using a combination of prefixes and suffixes attached to his or her name. Many Persian people were known by the name of the district, city, town, or village from which they belong by adding the locality's name as a suffix.
